Same kind of FIT jobs. The difference is where the file goes.
Fit File Tools is a free set of FIT editors: time adjust, combine, convert, strip, power booster, and more. Their homepage says no account is required.
The file still goes to their server. The power booster, for example, POSTs the FIT to /tools/powerboost. Switchback runs the same class of job in a Web Worker in this tab. The file is not sent anywhere.

Does Fit File Tools upload my FIT file?
Yes. Their tools POST the file to paths such as /tools/powerboost on their server. Switchback never does that.
Do I need an account on Fit File Tools?
Their homepage says no account is required. They still load Google sign-in and Cloudflare Turnstile. Switchback has neither.
Which one keeps heart rate and power?
Both aim to. Switchback writes Garmin’s GPX track-point extension. Check the other site’s output if you need a specific app.
Is Fit File Tools better at anything?
Their start extender can snap to roads on a map. Switchback’s is a straight line. They can also chain tools and send a result to Strava from their site.
