What this format is

People use this to hide their home address before posting a map. The default cut is 400 metres from the start and from the end. Nothing is uploaded; the trimmed file downloads locally.

How to get the file

  1. From Garmin Connect
  2. 1. Export GPX or FIT, drop it here, then share the download — not the original.
  1. From Strava
  2. 1. Strava can hide maps itself, but a GPX you post elsewhere will still show the start. Trim first.

Questions

How much is cut by default?

400 metres from the start and 400 metres from the end. Change either number before you run.

Does this change the file on Strava?

No. Strava already has the original. Share the trimmed download elsewhere; this does not edit the copy on their servers.

Is the cut recoverable from the download?

No. Those points are gone from the file you download. Keep the original if you still want the full track.
